Thousands of new renters are fueling demand for D-FW apartments

Some suburban Dallas communities are pushing back against apartment development. But with 40 percent of North Texas residents living in rental housing, more apartments are a must-have for the growing metropolitan area. HUD approves Texas’ Hurricane Harvey housing recovery plan

AUSTIN — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development approved Texas’ plan to get billions of dollars in aid to homeowners affected by Hurricane Harvey, but it will still be months before those affected by the storm get the assistance they need. The General Land Office, which crafted the plan, will soon begin distributing $5 billion in federal block grants to counties hit by Harvey, including $2.3 billion for Harris County and Houston. Officials considering downtown Houston for immigrant children’s shelter

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A building in downtown Houston may end up housing unaccompanied minors who have crossed the border, or children separated from their undocumented adult family members. The building is the former Star of Hope Women’s and Children’s Facility at the corner of Prairie and Emancipation Avenue.
